Montane Cordillera

The Montane Cordillera Ecozone is home to 12 species of reptiles including turtles, lizards and snakes. Three of these are found nowhere else is Canada: Pygmy Short-horned Lizard, Western Skink and Night Snake. It is the only ecozone in Canada with 3 species of lizards, although the Pygmy Short-horned Lizard is believed to be extirpated.

    Skinks
         Western Skink -- Scinque de l'Ouest -- Eumeces skiltonianus

    Boas and Pythons
         Rubber Boa -- Boa Caoutchouc -- Charina bottae

    Typical Snakes (Colubrids)
         Racer -- Couleuvre Agile -- Coluber constrictor
         Sharptail Snake -- Couleuvre à Queue Fine -- Contia tenuis
         Night Snake -- Couleuvre Nocturne -- Hypsiglena torquata
         Gopher Snake -- Couleuvre à Nez Mince -- Pituophis melanoleucus
         Western Terrestrial Garter Snake -- Couleuvre de l'Ouest -- Thamnophis elegans
         Common Garter Snake -- Couleuvre Rayée -- Thamnophis sirtalis

    Pit Vipers
         Western Rattlesnake -- Crotale de l'Ouest -- Crotalus viridis
