The 11th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Network / R�seau Canadien de Conservation des Amphibiens et des Reptiles will be held in Victoria, British Columbia, Friday October 27 - Sunday October 29, 2006.

The program will consist mainly of contributed 15-minute talks on Saturday and Sunday, 28-29 October but two invited keynote speakers will also be featured:

Dr. Richard Griffiths, Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent, UK � Captive Breeding of Amphibians: Conservation or Cosmetic Surgery?

Dr. Tony Russell, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Calgary � The Way of a Gecko on a Rock: Why the Animal�s Real Environment Matters

There will be a combined opening reception and poster session on the evening of Friday, 27 October, with assorted hors d�oeuvres and no-host bar. The meeting banquet (buffet, plus no-host bar) will be on the evening of Saturday, 28 October, followed by the traditional herpetological quiz. Both reception and banquet will be held at the Harbour Towers Hotel. Tan-coloured T-shirts with the meeting logo will be available for sale at the registration desk. The Royal British Columbia Museum, just a few blocks from the Harbour Towers, will offer meeting attendees a 10% discount on purchase of �Amphibians and Reptiles of British Columbia� by Matsuda et al., upon presentation of a meeting badge. Finally, although no conference field trips are planned, we will be pleased to offer whatever help and information we can for those planning their own sightseeing trips while in the Victoria area (see also www.tourismvictoria.com).

Pre-registration (late registration) fees, in Canadian dollars, are as follows:

  • Regular (i.e. non-student) members - $70 ($85)
  • Regular non-members - $95 ($110)
  • Student members - $55 ($70)
  • Student non-members - $75 ($90)
  • Cost for banquet, 28 Oct. - $35

Registration will begin in the late afternoon on Friday, 27 October, and the registration desk will remain open through the duration of the conference. Full registration/abstract submission/accommodation and other information will be posted on the CARCNET website when finalized.

Tan-coloured t-shirts adorned with the conference logo will be available for sale at the CARCNET meeting for $10-12 each. To help us determine how many t-shirts to order, please indicate whether you want one (or more), along with size(s), on your registration form.

The Harbour Towers Hotel and Suites offers excellent facilities for the CARCNET conference. It is a block away from Victoria's inner harbour and close to downtown. The hotel also is offering favourable room rates for this meeting, as follows (all rates in Canadian dollars, plus 10% Provincial Room Tax and 6% Federal GST):

To obtain these group rates, reservations must be made no later than thirty (30) days prior to 27 Oct. The hotel will continue to accept reservations after this date on a space-and-rate-availability basis only. Conference attendees are expected to make their own reservations and must quote the CARCNET Conference in order to obtain the group rate; a valid credit card number will be required to guarantee reservation. Annual Meetings are usually held at the end of September or the beginning of October. We try to alternate each year between eastern and western Canada. Each year students are eligible for the best poster or best presentation awards.
