Boreal Shield

The Boreal Shield Ecozone extends from Newfoundland to Alberta and hosts the second largest number of reptile species of any ecozone in Canada, although most of them in the extreme southern part of the ecozone. Twenty-one of the 23 species and subspecies found the Boreal Shield are also found further south in the Mixedwood Plains of Southwestern Ontario.
