Nunavut (Inuktitut for "our land") was until April 1, 1999 part of the Northwest Territories. Nunavut is larger than any other province or territory, but it also has fewer species of amphibians than any other. Only two species are found in Nunavut: the American Toad, limited to Akimiski Island in James Bay and the Wood Frog, found in the western portion of the territory.
