Ontario

Ontario has 24 species of amphibians -- more than any other province. This is because Ontario extends farther south so it has species found nowhere else in Canada, such as the Smallmouth Salamander, found only on Pelee Island. Unlike most provinces, not all species are found in the southern portion of Ontario. For example, the Boreal Chorus Frog is only found in western Ontario. While 14 species can be found in the northern half of the province only 7 range as far as James or Hudson Bay. Most of the species found in Ontario are also found in Manitoba and Québec.
