Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories has only 4 species of amphibians. No salamanders occur this far north. Frogs in the NWT are largely limited to the Mackenzie River Basin area, including Great Bear and Great Slave Lakes. The long winters and short summers preclude all but the spring breeders. Only the Wood Frog is found north of the Arctic Circle.
