Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland has only 8 species of amphibians, 2 of which are not native to the
province (the Western Chorus Frog and the Northern Green Frog). The 6 remaining species
are native only to Labrador. There are no native species found on the island, but the
Eastern American Toad, the Western Chorus Frog, the Northern Green Frog, the Northern Leopard Frog
and the Wood Frog have been introduced and have spread. Newfoundland has fewer
native species of amphibians than any other province. All of the species found
in Newfoundland are also found in Ontario, Québec and parts of the Maritimes.
